Big Broad in Co-Production with the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry, present Crush.

A smashing new musical comedy from Maureen Chadwick (creator and writer of hit TV dramas Waterloo Road, Footballers’ Wives and Bad Girls), with music and lyrics by Kath Gotts (Bad Girls The Musical and The Realness), directed by Anna Linstrum (High Society, Sound of Music and Spend, Spend, Spend)

This is an S.O.S. message. Please Save Our School
from imminent catastrophe.

It’s 1963 and Dame Dorothea Dosserdale School for Girls has a proud tradition of fostering free spirits from all walks of life.  So it’s a crushing blow when the new Headmistress turns out to be a reactionary tyrant with strict Victorian values – and top of her hit list are the two Sixth-Formers accused of "Unnatural Behaviour" in the Art Room... But hope is revived by a glamorous Games Mistress known as ‘Miss Givings’ and it’s hockey sticks to the fore in an all-out battle to save the school and the course of true love.

A jolly fun night out, Crush celebrates and subverts the traditional schoolgirl fiction genre, with lashings of charm, team spirit and toe-tapping tunes.

Crush premiered at the Belgrade Theatre Coventry from 4th - 19th September 2015, followed by a short tour to the Theatre Royal, Brighton (22nd-26th September) and then on to Richmond Theatre (29th September - 3rd October).

"This delightfully quirky coming-of-age musical boasts an impressive musical score by composer and lyricist Kath Gotts. A thoroughly enjoyable show for a great evening out." Carolin Kopplin, UK Theatre Network
"With a smart, slick book by Maureen Chadwick the story is well paced and never drags. Composer and lyricist Kath Gotts produces song after song of memorable, foot tapping tunes. This fast paced, energetic production is directed by the ever impressive Anna Linstrum." Laura-Jane Foley, London Theatre1 ★★★★
"Crush taps into the subversive undercurrents of its source and brings them to the fore, producing a show that’s boldly queer and a little bit crazy, yet with enough innocent exuberance to make it family-friendly, too. Rosemary Ashe gets a sublime exit song that’s worth the price of admission alone." Alex Ramon, British Theatre Guide
"Highly recommended to all those craving a lighthearted evening of fun!" Lisa Theresa Downey-Dent, West End Wilma ★★★★
