The Realness In Rehearsals
We're nearly halfway through rehearsals for The Realness now and we were delighted to welcome the fabulous Catherine Ashmore along to take some exclusive photos of all the team in action this week. Mike Henry, our musical director has been doing great work with all of the cast who are loving singing their songs, whilst Carrie-Anne Ingrouille is putting everyone through their paces with the choreography. Meanwhile Big House Artistic Director Maggie Norris is lounging around on the floor - oh, and doing a bit of directing while she's down there!

Big Broad in New Co-Production with The Big House
Big Broad are very excited to be working with The Big House this Autumn on a brand new musical - The Realness.
The Big House has a simple mission: to enable young people who have been through the care system to fulfill their potential. Through drama, mentoring, and long-term support The Big House enables care leavers to move forward with their lives and live independently. The impact of their work is astounding: “[I was] standing on street corners selling weed, and fighting… I hit rock bottom, getting stopped and searched by police every day. Without The Big House I think I would be in prison.” (Jasmine Jobson, in an interview for the Sunday Times News Review)
Maggie Norris established The Big House in 2013 after spending six years working to rehabilitate offenders and ex-offenders and having staged productions in Pentonville and Wormwood Scrubs. Working with a high number of care leavers, she was shocked to discover that almost half of all prisoners under 21 have been in care. The Big House was set up to break this cycle and many others that care leavers find themselves trapped in. Through drama and other interventions they help care leavers overcome traumas experienced in childhood so they can make the complex transition from looked-after child to independent adult.
